Kimio Takahashi draws on twenty-eight years of experience at the intersection of European and Japanese patent practice. Following his studies in aeronautical engineering, he worked at a major patent firm in Osaka for seven years before relocating to Munich in 2005. He has been a qualified Japanese Patent Attorney since 2002 and, in 2010, became one of the first Japanese nationals to qualify as a European Patent Attorney.

Kimio Takahashi advises clients across a broad spectrum of technologies. His practice focuses on general mechanical engineering, mechatronics, and medical technology, alongside electrical engineering, semiconductors, optics, information and communication technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and computer-implemented inventions. He represents clients in all phases of patent prosecution, including opposition and appeal proceedings as well as oral proceedings before the European Patent Office (EPO).

Having drafted hundreds of patent applications for clients during his practice in Japan, Kimio Takahashi possesses an in-depth understanding of the structural differences between Asian and European intellectual property systems. He applies this practical insight to effectively assist Japanese and other non-European applicants in navigating the specific requirements of the EPO.
